Red Dead Online has got a little more meat on its bones with the arrival of the new Gun Rush update. Remember the rumours of a battle royale mode for Red Dead Redemption 2? Well, it’s here now.

Gun Rush is an all-new mode for Red Dead Online, sorry, Red Dead Online ‘Beta’ that has 32 players dropped into a shrinking circle, gathering weapons and ammunition as the player count whittles down. Rockstar has said Gun Rush can be played solo or in teams.

And that’s about it for this update, although Rockstar has outlined what’s coming in the near future. Other changes coming to Red Dead Redemption 2 Online include daily challenges, new Races, Showdown modes, new clothing and emotes. The Law and Bounty systems are also getting an upgrade in order to reduce griefing. Players will get a bounty on their heads for committing crimes and will need to pay them off or risk being hunted.

Rockstar says it’s going to make the Parley system easier to trigger. I’ve sunk 10 hours in and I don’t even know what the Parley system is so sure, make it easier. Apparently, this will help players avoid other aggressive players more quickly. Player blips are also being removed from the overworld map. Blips will only be visible while in close proximity, with Rockstar looking a system for griefing players to be visible from greater distances.

Looking even further afield, Rockstar plans to add new story missions to Red Dead Online, new Dynamic events, new competitive modes, new weapons and new clothing.

“Red Dead Online will stay in beta for a few more months yet as we have many more new gameplay features to add across the board as well as further changes to improve, stabilize and refine the overall experience,” says Rockstar.

Who knows, the god-awful online may even be good by the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 arrives!
